It has finally arrived!

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Thursday, June 30, 2016,

Finally! After a delay of two years to first get the cash together and then a further EIGHT months delay compliments of an administrative mess at HP South Africa (you seriously dropped the ball on this one guys), my editing dream machine has finally arrived. Spec'ed out and custom built for me by a man with a fancy Italian name.

I love this machine. Built on a 17" Zbook G3 chassis I had it jam-packed with as much memory and onboard storage as the motherboard would allow. I've been fortunate t...

Finally!

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Sunday, May 18, 2014,

It's here, finally! Delivered by a man in a van on Thursday afternoon. My camera upgrade is nearly complete. More to follow as soon as I work my way through the avalanche of recordings and editing projects for May. Watch this space.

Camera upgrade: Phase 1A - Filters

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Thursday, May 8, 2014,

Above: Lee 100mm ND9 filter fits my Genus matte box perfectly. Pictured here sans the 67mm adapter lens ring still on order.

I'm busy with a sizable upgrade on my NEX-FS100 camera as well as my post-production software. Sadly it is taking frustratingly long to get all the stuff I ordered. I don't know...maybe it's because I live where I live, or maybe it's because I live in a country that has most its public holidays in April. Or maybe I'm just getting old and impatient.

Anyhow, because th...

Arrived last night..

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Wednesday, June 5, 2013,

Yes, it is new! Sony NEX-FS100 with a (partially assembled) Genus matte box, rail system and follow focus unit. And yes a rig like this has been on my wishlist for more than two years.

Actually the camera is a loan unit because mine is on backorder with Sony and is still sitting on a factory workbench in Nagasaki. The Genus cine kit arrived in SA last Friday. Obviously I can't wait to put this to work.

More to follow soon, watch this space.

Wrap up your tablet

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Friday, July 13, 2012,

My editing and camera gear travels a lot so I'm always on the lookout for protective gear. If you're like me and you own and love your Wacom graphics tablet, you'll also know that they tend to live very hard lives inside laptop bags when you're on the move. This pouch offers a protective inner lining, two internal pockets for cables and accessories and an elastic pen loop.

It fits the Intuos 4 and 5 tablets but should be perfect for any of Wacom's similarly-sized Bamboo tablets. Order on...

Flolight Microbeam 128

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Sunday, March 11, 2012,

Geez I had to wait a looooooooong time for this one to arrive...

My Flolight kit has been on backorder in the US since the middle of last year, so when Jason at Pro-Sales (dealers in very cool and wonderful production toys) phoned me up to tell me mine has arrived, I made tracks to Jhb asap.

The Microbeam 128 is the one of the most compact lights in Flolight’s LED camera light range and comes complete your choice of Sony, Panasonic, JVC and a few other brands’ battery cradles. First cool ...

Edit suite upgrade

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Tuesday, December 27, 2011,

We recently upgraded our post-production setup and if you’re a client of ours you’re in for a treat in 2012! Having wrapped up the last projects by early December we were able to reformat, rewire and rearrange the current work area to something that is now very close to my dream (home) edit suite.

The new edit suite now features:

  • A new custom designed desk. This is a huge improvement over the previous.
  • Mobile HP workstations with the latest versions of Avid Media Composer, Adobe...

Take a stand! (a Miller stand preferably)

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Wednesday, September 14, 2011,

If you make a living from professional video a good quality video camera and tripod will be some of your biggest capital investments. And if either one of two is rubbish, the resulting footage will probably be of the same quality. In the modern digital age HD has become the defacto standard, with DV tape now basically relegated to little Suzy’s birthday party and maybe her wedding a few years later on if her parents decide to trim the big day’s budget.

Panasonic brought out a number of...
